Emergency Response and Hazardous Waste Program
The circumstances on the reservations that require emergency preparedness may be more limited than in a more urbanized setting. The areas of concern include transportation of hazardous materials through the reservation, oil and gas associated with oil fields, service stations, and home heating, dam safety, and weather emergencies.
The WREQC has developed a cooperative relationship with the Fremont County Emergency Management Agency for response to emergencies. The WREQC and Fremont County have worked together to provide staff training and public information on hazardous spill responses, dangerous gas encounters, and to comply with Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) emergency planning and community right-to-know requirements.
